RADM Frank & Maryellen Lacroix Scholarship Campaign

A Message from Maryellen Lacroix:

My family and I are honored that Admiral Rich Mies, USN (Ret.) spearheaded the creation of a named scholarship within the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation in Frank’s (and my) name. We have always believed in supporting the education of the children and spouses of our beloved submarine community. (Our own daughter was the proud recipient of a Dolphin Scholarship for all four years of college).

Frank was a graduate of The Ohio State University NROTC program. He was a nuclear physicist by trade and a submariner at heart. His demeanor was contemplative, quiet and effective. He loved the Navy and dedicated his life to its advancement and success. Whether he was commanding submarines or leading Submarine Development Squadron Twelve, he committed himself to safely guiding his crews into (and out of) harm’s way when called upon. Similarly, I loved serving as a Navy wife and as the Program Coordinator for Child and Family Services at the New London Subbase. These were some of the best years of our lives!

Many have told me how grateful they were for Frank’s mentorship and guidance throughout their careers. He loved helping good people find success and would do everything he could to advance capable colleagues in the Navy and the civilian world.

Frank truly believed in education as a path to advancement and would be extremely pleased about this scholarship that is named for both of us. He was passionate about learning and spent much of his life studying languages, science, foreign affairs, philosophy, military strategy, religion and history.

Frank and I have always believed that this next generation-which includes our five grandchildren-will make a tremendous contribution to our world. Because of this, we are grateful and honored to be a part of furthering the education of the children and spouses of our amazing submarine family.
